MISERY LOVES COMPANY

I’m bored, stuck at home and wanted a break from catching up on my TV show backlog, saw this on a friend’s FB wall and pressed play. And I kept trying to stop it but I just had to finish the video…so now I want to share the misery…why should I be the only one who’s suffering…PLEASE CLICK ON THIS LINK

While watching the video, some thoughts came to mind:
1. What did Kris Aquino say that caused that look on Emma Stone’s face even before the interview start?
2. What’s with that accent and that voice? That’s not the accent she uses when she talks about her lovelife.
3. And what’s with those questions? As much as I dislike her, I always thought that beyond the kaka-ness, self-involved moments, Kris is an intelligent woman. She is after all an Ateneo graduate. She was trying way too hard that it left everyone, especially Emma Stone confused.
4. And then to go on air and say that Emma Stone wasn’t so nice? Maybe it wasn’t about Emma Stone but about Kris.

I know am spending an awful lot of time on a woman that annoys the hell out of me, but again, I am bored…I think it is time to take baby steps out of the house…

That’s all for now….bow

INDAY’S LATEST ROUND OF WTFs…

i’ve had a lot of time lately to just sit back and observe things around me and   And though there are some high lights, there are clearly some things that deserve outbursts of WTF?

1.  I think (and i’ve thought this for a really long time, as most of you have I’m sure) that it’s high time Kris Aquino shuts up about her love life until he puts a ring on it.  Eventually, she’ll run out of hair to chop off if she keeps this up. then again, she might run out of men…

2.  Apparently, Ellen Adarna plays a doctor on that show Moon of Desire.  But her skirt seems a tad too short for someone in the medical profession.  or maybe that’s just me…

3.  there’s something sad about Dyesebel, and am not referring to the story here.

4.  Anne Curtis singing…need I say more?

5. girls who insist on wearing heels when they can’t walk properly in them. baby steps dear, start with kitten heels or practice with wedges.  then work your way up to stilettos.

6.  girls who wear suuuper short skirts but keep pulling them down, you have to practice walking around your house first before you head out the door.  or wear the proper underwear and deal with it.

7.  and for that matter, girls who wear low cut tops and keep pulling them up…if it’s really bothering you, there’s this “new” invention called the double-sided tape.

8.  people who haven’t discovered the magic of conditioners or hot oil treatments. you will be so glad you did, and so will the people around you.

i think that’ll do for now…I’m sure I’ll come up with more…feel free to add your own WTFs

That’s all for now…bow.

IT’S ABOUT SERVICE (OR WHY I’M NEVER GOING BACK TO GREEN PASTURES)

A few months ago, i ate at  GREEN PASTURES at the new wing of the Shangri La Mall and had a really bad experience.  and now i’m seeing that this place is getting such rave reviews, so i figured, now that Inday is back online, it’s time I put my 2 cents in about this place.    the first and LAST time I ate there, I not only had a horrible meal, but also experienced really bad customer service.  and what’s even sadder, the owner has already been informed, by mutual friends, of what happened but I HAVE NEVER EVEN BEEN CONTACTED.  IT’S OWNED BY THE SAME PEOPLE AS CYMA, and we know I’m not going to eat there either, EVER!!!

so here’s what happened.

we had a family dinner there, but i was late so by the time i arrived, they had all finished eating.  I was given a menu, made my selection and signaled the waiter who was just standing to one side.  he held up one finger in a “wait” gesture. i said ok, a little odd considering he was just standing there, but ok.  finally another waiter came to take my order but as I was reciting my choices, i looked up and said waiter was looking around and clearly not listening to me.  take deep breath and count 1 to 10.  i said, “can i order now?” so finally he takes down my order and leaves.  soon my appetizer of bangus sardines of some sort arrives.  not bad, a little too oily, but over all it tasted good.  and then my mushroom pasta came.  well it didn’t taste bad, neither did it taste good, that’s because IT HAD NO TASTE.  I asked for salt, and soon all i could taste was the salt.  it looked like it should taste like something, but nothing really nothing. the waiter came and asked how my food was, and i said, it’s tasteless.  he apologized and offered to replace it, but i said never mind.  he left our table and approached a man who had been standing by the kitchen wearing a chef’s jacket (who was acting like he was in charge) and whispered something to him and pointed to our table (we were only a few feet away and I had a clear view of the 2 of them).  but did said senior staff ever come over? nope.  just went about his business.

THE MUSHROOM PASTA OR WHATEVER ITS CALLED

THE MUSHROOM PASTA OR WHATEVER ITS CALLED

we asked for the bill and just for the heck of it, i checked if the pasta was there. and yes it was.  ok fine, let’s just pay and go.   on our way out, dude in chef’s jacket said, “hope to see you again.” inhale, exhale and turn…”No you won’t.  The mushroom pasta was bad, it was tasteless and just blah and the waiter informed you about it and you didn’t even have the courtesy to approach us to apologize.  and you didn’t even remove it from the bill.” he tried to reason out, “oh they didn’t?” so meaning he did know what was going on, “i told them to remove it from the bill,” then looked around for the waiter, “I said well they didn’t and besides you should have talked to us, or some other senior person.” and all he could say was, “we’ll make it up to you next time.”  i said, “maybe if you approached us earlier and apologized.  I saw our waiter approach you, he gestured to our table so I knew he was talking about us.  but you never even apologized. you only apologize now because I called you on it.  so dude, no, we will not be back, EVER.” he tried again, “we promise to make it up to you…” too late dude,”no, you lost your chance, and I will share this on social media and will tell all my friends.” and we left. and even before i reached my house it was posted and tagged. it’s taken me a while to actually blog about it, but hey better late than never….

THIS WAS SO DIFFERENT FROM WHAT I EXPERIENCED TODAY AT SUMMER PALACE AT EDSA SHANGRI LA HOTEL.

Mom was craving their Hot Prawn Salad and I was just hungry since I skipped breakfast and wanted a good meal, and since we had limited choices on Good Friday, we thought why not Summer Palace.  WE’d had their Hot Prawn Salad before and knew it was good.  So off we went.  We arrived around 1115am, the place was empty and we were quickly led to a table, given a menu, and because we already what we wanted, in about 5 minutes we had placed our orders.  In about 10 minutes, the place started filling up with people who also began ordering their food.  Soon the first of our orders arrived, the Steamed Prawn Dumplings and the Steamed Scallop Dumplings.  About 5 minutes later, the Fried Lobster Rolls came.  We were still waiting for the Machang, Crispy Noodles and Hot Prawn Salad.  (told you I was hungry).  It had been about 20 minutes since we arrived and placed our orders.  The people in the next table had been there for about 10 minutes when we saw that they had already been served Crispy Noodles, and a couple other meat dishes.  The other tables were also receiving their dimsum orders.  Where was the rest of our food then?  The Hot Prawn Salad arrived and after one bite, mom and I were so confused.  this was not the dish that we had enjoyed many times before.  the prawns were tough, and dry, despite the mayo, the coating was soggy, like it had been sitting in the dressing for hours.

a few minutes later, one of the senior staff of Shang approached the table next to us to greet the diners.  (judging from the hugs and besos, you could tell they were friends) I looked at mom and said, “No wonder they got their food quickly.”  A minute later, this woman passed our table and asked how things were. I said, “well not too good, we arrived and ordered before all of these people and yet they’ve all gotten their orders and ours isn’t complete yet. and this hot prawn salad is not good.” she quickly apologized and volunteered to follow up the rest of our orders.  we told her to just cancel and send us the bill.  we were too annoyed to eat anymore. pretty soon another senior staffer (based on his uniform) approached us apologized and told us that our lunch was on the house.  we went back and forth, with us insisting on paying at least for the dishes that we kind of enjoyed, but he insisted that it was complimentary and that he hoped we’d come back so he could personally attend to our needs.  we said, “we’ll see.” left a tip and walked out of the restaurant.  The lady we talked to previously asked us to fill out a comment card and told us that we were not the first to comment about the Prawn Salad.  Turns out she was in charge of the Chinese restaurants and was already investigating the problem since there had already been several complaints.  Though we were disappointed by the meal, we were also impressed at the attitude that the Shang staff took.  It wasn’t just that our lunch was free, but their very sincere apology, eagerness to explain and pacify and their very warm and friendly approach.  This is so not the usual attitude you get from local service staff, senior or junior level.

had the management and staff of Green Pastures apologized properly, without my having to point it out to them several times in a span of 10 minutes, i probably wouldn’t have been as mad.  but they didnt even seem to care until i was already mad.  i mean really, i started annoyed, moved up to pissed off before i reached mad.   just because they’re the “IN PLACE”.  SO PLEASE DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS RESTAURANT.  LET THEIR GREEN PASTURES TURN BROWN AND DRY UP.

but do go to Summer Palace.  They know what good and bad service means, and do their best to appease upset guests. sometimes, all we want is an apology.  the freebies are great, but a “sorry” is even better.

That’s all for now…bow.

INDAY’S UPDATE

I know, I know…you’ve all probably missed reading about all my crazy adventures and misadventures.  And if you haven’t missed me, well…well…well.  The truth is, for the last few months, I’ve been very busy.  Yes there have been some trips and photo ops, which I will share someday.  But for now I want to share something else…and it’s my blog so I’ll share what I want to…La lang.

Well you are all probably thinking that the only thing that I enjoy is having all camera lenses pointed at me and being in the spotlight, and you may be right.  But there’s one other thing I love and that’s music, 80’s music to be precise.  I may enjoy occassional tunes from Pink or Katy Perry or my favorite boy bands, Westlife and Boyzone.  But the real soundtrack of my life are those songs from my not-so-distant past.  So imagine how excited I was when I found a way to get both–the spotlight and 80s music.  Ok calm down, I have not transformed into  Geleen Eugenio’s long, lost twin sister.  I just discovered The Mike Bon Gang.

Here’s how it happened….

It actually all started with a blind date…or as we chose to call it…a pseudo blind date. My friend called me last August and said,  “I want you to meet this guy, he likes to sing, you like to sing.  And there’s this band that plays 80’s music and they let people jam.”   Not the most romantic set-up, but hey, meet a guy, 80’s music, sing….How can you (meaning me) say no to that?  So I said, “Game”.  Just 5 minutes after meeting the guy, I knew the highlight of the evening would not be the “DATE” but rather the music.  And thankfully, the band aka The Mike Bon Gang was really good.

They were just three guys, Guitar, Bass and Drums, who all sang vocals on various tracks.  My friends and I were quite fascinated becuase though there were only three guys performing, it sounded like there was a full band hiding under the floorboards or something.  Mike plays guitar and does lead vocals, Cholo, drums and vocals and Jonathan, bass and vocals.  And, what was even better?  Their playlist was filled with selections from the soundtrack of my life.

For a moment I was back in Cow Palace watching Tears for Fears perform Everybody Wants to Rule the World and Shout.  And then when they played A Little Respect from Erasure, suddenly I was catapulted back to the Erasure concerts at Shoreline Ampitheater and the Warfield!  And then my friends and I were surprised to hear The Promise by When in Rome, which brought back memories of my days in San Francisco.  In between there were other great songs like With or Without you, Upside Down, Electric Dreams etc etc etc.

But our hands-down favorite part was when they started singing Human by the Human League.  If you’re not familiar with the song, it’s actually a duet between a guy and a girl.  It’s an all male band, so we were confused. Especially when we heard the girl’s spoken part, “The tears I cried aren’t tears of pain, they’re all to hide my guilt and shame.  I forgive you and I ask the same of you.  While we were apart, I was human too.”  We were looking around to see if it was a recording or if there was a surprise guest (think ASAP) and were laughing when we realized it was the drummer speaking and singing in falsetto.  They followed this with Nothing’s Gonna Stop us Now, another male-female song.  And again there was that voice.  I guess you could say that after those winning moments, my friends and I were officially fan-girls!

So we all eagerly sang along and aloud and would even do the back-up singers parts.  Then i heard my name being called.  One of my friends requested that I be called to sing. I did the “no, i’m shy routine” but as we all know, I’m not THAT shy.  So eventually, with a lot of prodding (ok there really wasn’t much prodding) I got up on stage and sang a few tunes, including a not so new wave (but also my trademark jamming with a band song), Crazy for You.

When the band finished their set, my “date” disappeared faster then you could say “Depeche Mode”.  We ended up staying and hanging out with the band for a while.  We were back the following week and the week after that.  Between and after their sets, the band would join us for a round or two of drinks.  We’d even make comments on their playlists.  Involved???

I left for the States for a bit, but upon my return, the first thing on the agenda was a surprise party for a friend with The Mike Bon Gang as musical guest.  As expected, our other friends enjoyed their music too.  After that, we became regular fixtures at their gigs like the ones at Craft Rock and Grill at the Fort Strip.

Some of us would even go all the way to Roxas Blvd to watch them at The Pier.

And because I always take every opportunity for a photo op, we’d even have a “let’s pose with the band” moment.

And yes, I have sung with them a few times….after all, if there’s one thing you can’t count on, Inday will always find the spotlight.

And so have some of my friends…

it's not just Inday

So there, if you’ve been wondering what I’ve been up?  I’ve been pretty busy.  In fact, already making plans for their next gig, April 23 at The Pier.  You should go check them out…and while you’re at it, check out the The Mike Bon Gang facebook page!
